Center Preserving Great Lakes Native American
Culture
The
National Center for Great Lakes Native American
Culture, Incorporated (NCGLNAC), is a
not-for-profit organization dedicated to preserving
Great Lakes Native American Indian art, handcrafts,
and history through a variety of in-house and
outreach programs. Since it was founded in May of
2001, NCGLNAC has organized regular events to
preserve and promote Native culture through
workshops and other activities.
This summer will mark the fifth annual
Gathering of Great Lakes Nations Pow Wow. The
event will be held on June 7-8 at the Tri-State Gas
Engine and Tractor Grounds in Portland, Indiana.

Place Launches Arts Connection Engine
Arts Place, Inc. is offering a unique online arts
resource through its website
IndianaArts.org.
The website is Indiana’s only statewide arts and
cultural portal. Five other arts organizations have
joined with Arts Place as partners in using this
service.
The
ArtsConnection Engine (ACE),
a web service of IndianaArts.org, provides a
centralized online system that brings together
artists, arts organizations, arts patrons,
arts-related businesses, the media, and sponsors.
The ACE service enables partnering websites to
provide visitors with customized, searchable local
and statewide arts-related content including an
events calendar, classified listings, and
directories of artists, arts organizations, and
related businesses.

Award
Cornerstone Center for the Arts in Muncie,
Indiana, is an exciting blend of arts programming
for all persons. Committed to the well-being of the
individual, Cornerstone’s mission is to nurture
community connections by providing opportunities for
creative expression, educational programs, and
events in a historic setting.
Terry Whitt Bailey, CEO of Cornerstone Center for
the Arts recently received the Community Arts
Leadership Award for Arts Educator by the
Indiana
Coalition for the Arts Foundation. The Awards
were presented in a public ceremony during Arts Day
at the Statehouse on Monday, February 25th.

Indiana to Select New State Poet Laureate
The Indiana Arts
Commission (IAC) is now accepting nominations for
the Indiana State Poet Laureate. The poet
selected will represent the State of Indiana and the
art of poetry through the development and
implementation of programming to the education
community and general public. The Poet Laureate
makes formal presentations at various educational
facilities and offers advice to the Commission
concerning ways to further the art of poetry in
Indiana.

Orchestras Band Together in East Central Indiana
East Central Indiana is host to four orchestras:
Muncie Symphony Orchestra, Marion Philharmonic
Orchestra, Richmond Symphony Orchestra, and Anderson
