Arts in Education Summit in Indianapolis
June 8

The Indiana Arts Commission is partnering with Young Audiences Indiana to present Arts Powered Education, a statewide summit on arts education.  The summit is part of Young Audiences Indiana’s 13th Annual Institute for Artful Teaching, held in Downtown Indianapolis June 8-10, 2009.

The Arts in Education Statewide Summit is aimed at continuing the conversation about arts education in the state of Indiana with teachers, administrators, artists, organizations, public leaders, parents, and concerned citizens.  Education leaders from around the country and state will be on hand to discuss various issues and lead discussions and workshops on various topics related to issues both inside and outside of the classroom.

The Summit will be held on June 8.  During the summit, National and statewide leaders will focus on best practices in Arts in Education in large and small group presentations.  Attendees will also experience how the arts are energizing education in schools and organizations throughout the country.

June 9-10 will feature in-depth workshops that leverage learning by combining art forms with curriculum topics.

Sessions will be held in Downtown Indianapolis at the Eiteljorg Museum, Indiana State Museum, and Herron School of Art & Design, IUPUI.

Featured speakers include Grammy Nominated cellist and Young Audiences, Inc. artist David Darling, and Marcia Daft, a professional musician, nationally known arts educator, and Master Artist with the Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning through the Arts.

Participants can register to attend just the Summit or the entire Institute.  Discounts apply for those who register by May 15, 2009.  Detailed information and online registration is available at www.yaindy.org.   For more information contact Mallory Sheets at 317-925-4043, ext. 120 or email msheets@yaidy.org.
