Indiana Artisan
Application Deadline October 10
Local artists and food producers are sought by
October 10 for the
Indiana Artisan program’s final 2009
adjudication. Since Indiana Artisan was launched by
Lt. Governor Skillman in 2008, nearly 650 art and
food artisans from around the state have applied to
be part of the program.
From those applicants, six artists from Region Five
were among the 111 selected for the program that is
creating a brand based on Indiana-made artisan work,
providing entrepreneurial support to the artisans,
and promoting fine and handcrafted art, as well as
value-added food products made in Indiana. Their
product is part of the group of work being promoted
to retailers around the state and the Midwest.

The Indiana Arts Commission, Indiana Office of
Tourism Development, Office of Community and Rural
Affairs, the Indiana State Museum, and the Indiana
State Department of Agriculture are partners in
sponsoring the program.
As
a participant artists also have the opportunity to
leverage the resources of the five partners through
branding, increased marketing and business growth,
education and networking opportunities, Internet
representation and online sales opportunities, and
become part of the artisan-related, tourism-focused
trail development throughout the state.
The timeline, along with applications for both
artists and value-added food producers, is available
at
www.IndianaArtisan.com.
All applicants to the Indiana Artisan program are
juried by one of two standing panels – one for arts
applicants and one for value-added food applicants –
of business development, retail, arts, and culinary
professionals.
With fewer than 20 percent of applications being
juried into the program, the chosen work truly is
part of a select group made by Hoosier artisans.
Selection is based on a unique link with Hoosier
history or heritage, originality, quality,
price/marketability, and technique/taste. |
