Arts in the Parks Teaching Artists

Kelly Bricker is a Ball State graduate with a bachelor’s degree in education.  She is currently teaching elementary art for the Jay  County School Corporation. She is passionate about oil painting, ceramics, and printmaking.  In her free time, she loves painting, barrel racing, boating and spending time with her family.

Sonja Brooks is a teaching artist who encourages children and adults to explore both the fun of art making and its power to nourish growth and change. Sonja is also Executive Director of Sisohpromatem Art Foundation Inc., a non-profit in Lexington, Kentucky that helps children develop life skills and community participation through engagement in the arts.

Valeria DeCastro is a performing artist and artistic director for traditional and contemporary theater with training in dance, devising techniques, mime, and mask. She studied music at the University of Brasilia (Brazil) and she holds an MA degree in language and literature from IUB. She has more than 25 years of experience working with children in school settings in US, Brazil, and Costa Rica.

Emilie Fisher is a junior in the Visual Art Education program at the University of Saint Francis. She is from Rockford, Ohio. Emilie is excited to share her passion for the arts with the students of Arts in the Parks.

Florine Golden is the family and consumer science teacher at Jay County High School. She has taught Cake Decorating for over 32 years.

Hailey Gross is a Ball State Graduate with a degree in Visual Arts Education with an emphasis in ceramics. She teaches elementary art for the Jay County School Corporation. Hailey enjoys experimenting with printmaking techniques that can easily be done at home. She has a passion for sharing new techniques with her students!

Rachel King is an artist who works in the media of printmaking, drawing, and painting. She is passionate about both creating and teaching. Rachel has a BS in Art Education from Roberts Wesleyan College and is currently attending the Pennsylvania Academy of  the Fine Arts to obtain her MFA.

Carol Knarr-Gebert teaches dual credit speech and theater through Ivy Tech at Jay County High School. Carol has performed storytelling in China and Israel as well as throughout the United States. She received her BA from Anderson University, MS from Indiana University and MFA from Arizona State University. Learn more about storytelling at

Christine Kuhn is an art teacher and activist who uses art to empower and promote liberal social change. She holds degrees in biology, chemistry, and diplomacy and is a graduate of the Philadelphia Mural Arts Training Program. When she’s not in the studio, Christine can be found cycling the city streets and back roads of her hometown, Lexington, KY.

Camilla Quinn Oldenkamp is currently working as an artist and educator in Las Vegas, Nevada. She received her undergraduate degree at Ball State University through the College of Fine Arts and her MFA in Studio Art at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Camilla has participated in several art events and shows around the country.

Kara Pinkerton is a teacher at Blackford High School in Hartford City, IN. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Arts Education in 2006 and landed her first teaching position in Blackford County that summer. She has had a passion for the arts since early elementary school.

Stephanie Schieltz is a first year elementary art teacher in the Jay School Corporation. She graduated from Ball State University in May 2015 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Arts Education specializing in ceramics.

Rebecca Stockert received a BA in ceramics and MA in painting from the University of Saint Francis. She teaches History of Art and Culture I & II and Art Appreciation at Ivy Tech Community College in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Billy Simms has 18 years of teaching experience working with students from kindergarten-age through college undergraduates. He has an MS degree in Special Education, a BA degree in Theatrical Scenic and Lighting Design, and is expected to graduate summer of 2017 with an MFA in printmaking.
